Pendant in bead crochet technique

Making bracelets in bead crochet technique

At this class the we will make a pendant in bead crochet technique. In order to mater this fun, but complicated technique we will crochet a pendant with a swirl (sugar cane) pattern using large seed beads. Once you’ve mastered this technique, you will be able to make flexible bracelets and lariat necklaces with smaller seed beads.

During the workshop we will concentrate on the technique itself. I will provide a length of thread with seed beads pre-strung to form a pattern, we will crochet the piece, finish the pendants, and in the remaining time I will tell you how to string the pattern using my bead crochet pattern reader, how to calculate the number of beads you need, what kind of seed beads to use, how else you can finish a crocheted piece, and what you can make out of it.

I will provide necessary materials: pre-strung seed beads, crochet hook, pins, bead caps, cords. Available seed bead colors are: white, bridal white, read, hematite, blue, turquoise. (See photo. Selection vary depending on availability.) We will make the swirl pattern shown on the photo because it it allows to see missed loops better.

Providing hooks is a separate issue. Mine is an old №5. It now corresponds to №№7-8. Of course, I will provide hooks for all participants. Unfortunately, nothing I have seen in stores can compare with old crochet hooks you can find at yard sales and in your grandma’s boxes. New ones aren’t sharp enough. So, if you have old thin crochet hooks – bring them over. They should be thin enough to use with Aunt Lydia crochet thread №3. (See photo with a bobbin and bracelets.)

Attention!

It is an advanced class! Making even a small pendant in bead crochet technique is complicated; it requires patience and attention. Participants must know how to crochet. Basic knowledge is enough. I think it’s called a single stitch in English, but anyway, if you know how to crochet, you know this stitch – it’s the basic.

Level: advanced.

Tools and materials will be provided.
